Ready or Not – Teens want to learn!

“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself.  When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.”  -Jack Welch

Lots of people believe that the reason parents don’t teach their teens about money is because most parents don’t have a great handle on their OWN finances.  I wonder if parents just haven’t seen it as part of their role as the leader in their relationship with their teen.  I wonder if the issue has something to do with parents taking on their own leadership in this relationship.

But, I am still confused.  Lots of people tell me “Teens aren’t interested in learning about money.”  These people, though, are usually people with negative images about teenagers—and these people, generally, are NOT parents!!

What I DO hear from parents is “My teen is too busy,” and “My teen doesn’t have enough money to learn about it.”

Research reveals that teens want to learn about how to manage their money, and my high school students tell me—ACROSS THE BOARD—that they don’t think there’s anyone who knows how to talk to them, in a way that they can hear, about this life skill.

What do you think about all this?
